What legal services does Vergara Miller Law Firm offer?
Vergara Miller focuses exclusively on humanitarian immigration law. We represent survivors of domestic abuse through VAWA self-petitions, victims of human trafficking through T visas, and victims of crime through U visas. We also handle removal defense and stays of removal for clients already in immigration proceedings. Work permits and green cards often come later, as the next step once one of these cases is approved, and we'll walk you through that path when the time comes.
How long does an immigration process take?
Every case moves at its own pace, so we can't promise an exact timeline — but we can tell you what shapes it. VAWA, T visa, and U visa cases each move through different government queues, and current processing times, your case's complexity, and whether you're also in removal proceedings all play a role. Some steps move in months; others, especially with USCIS backlogs, can take longer. During your case review, we'll give you a realistic sense of what to expect for your specific situation, and we'll keep you updated at every stage so you're never left wondering.
Is it possible to fix my situation without leaving the country?
In many humanitarian cases, yes. VAWA, T visa, and U visa protections are built for people who are already here, and a large part of what we do is help clients pursue status without having to leave the U.S. or go through consular processing abroad. Whether that's possible for you depends on the details of your situation, including any past immigration or criminal history. And if your case involves an abusive partner or family member, know that your case can move forward without them ever finding out. The safest first step is a confidential case review, where we'll look at your specific circumstances and lay out your real options.
What documents do I need to start my case?
It depends on your case type, but a few things help us get started right away: a valid photo ID, and any immigration paperwork you've already filed or received (notices, prior applications, court documents). Beyond that, bring anything connected to your specific situation — police reports or protective orders for VAWA and U visa cases, for example, or records showing your cooperation with law enforcement. Don't worry if you don't have everything on hand. Bring what you do have to your case review, and we'll help you identify what's missing and how to get it.
Do you offer payment plans?
We know cost is often one of the biggest worries for families who reach out to us, and we don't want that to stand between you and the help you need. We work with clients to set up payment arrangements that fit their situation, and we're happy to talk through what's realistic for your budget during your case review — with no pressure and no judgment.
